COURSE SELECTION INFORMATION
WHEN SHOULD I CHOOSE MY COURSES?
It depends on the organisation of your Host University. For some, the courses are selected during the application procedure, for others, after being officially accepted or upon arrival. You will be informed of the necessary steps by your Host University and/or your Exchange Coordinator.
WHICH COURSES CAN I CHOOSE?
You must complete as many Business or Management related courses as necessary to reach 28 ECTS credits for S5 Abroad or 24 ETCS credits for S6 Abroad (or the equivalent number of ECTS credits for those studying outside Europe). In addition, we strongly recommend that you choose courses related to your specialisation to maintain the coherence of your programme and to be well prepared for future academic expectations.
You may want to add extra course(s) to ensure validation of your semester in case of a Fail when possible.
Depending on your Host University, you may need to convert your foreign credits into ECTS credits with the equivalence system.
Please, note that you are not allowed to take courses in French or courses you have already followed at Rennes SB! |
WHAT IS A LEARNING AGREEMENT?
EUROPE | OUTSIDE OF EUROPE |
This is a study contract between you, Rennes SB and the Host University: it allows you to validate your choice of courses at the start of your semester abroad with both the Host University and Rennes SB. You must take the courses that are listed in the 👉 Learning Agreement.
/!\ Specific information for exchange students in Europe The management of Learning Agreements is currently changing in Europe and will gradually move from a paper version to a digital version. Some partner universities have already adopted this new method which consists of filling in your learning agreement directly on an online platform called Online Learning Agreement (OLA). If, during the application process, your host university asks you to use this online method, please refer to your Exchange Coordinator at Rennes SB in order to get instructions on how to do it. |
IF, AFTER ARRIVAL, I NEED TO CHANGE THE COURSE LIST ON MY LEARNING AGREEMENT. HOW SHOULD I PROCEED?
In some cases, you might have to change your course selection upon arrival. Any changes have to be approved by your Exchange Coordinator at Rennes SB and the Host University using the second page of the Learning Agreement document.
HOW MANY ECTS CREDITS DO I NEED TO VALIDATE?
You have to validate a total of:
- 28 ECTS for an Exchange in Semester 5
- 24 ECTS for an Exchange in Semester 6
- 52 ECTS for a Full Year in Transfer of Credits or a Full Year in Double Degree
For more details, see above.
MY EXCHANGE WILL BE OUTSIDE OF EUROPE. HOW WILL I OBTAIN THE ECTS CREDIT EQUIVALENCY?
The equivalence of your credits will be communicated to you by your Exchange Coordinator and/or your Host University.
How are credits obtained abroad validated?
Rennes School of Business only transfers credits obtained abroad, but not grades. Credits are only transferable when they have been marked as PASS by the host university and according to its grading system. It is important that you check and understand your host university's grading system at the start of your exchange to avoid any unpleasant surprises.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I FAIL A COURSE DURING MY EXCHANGE?
If you have not been able to validate all your ECTS credits abroad, there are some options for you to validate the missing credits.
CAN I PARTICIPATE IN RESIT SESSIONS ABROAD?
Some partner universities organise resit sessions. It is the responsibility of the student to find relevant information about how to register. No resit exams can be organised at Rennes SB for classes that have been failed abroad.
MY UNIVERSITY DOES NOT OFFER RESIT SESSION. WHAT IS THE OTHER OPTION?
If your host university does not offer a resit exam, or if you failed to register for it, you will have to take extra classes in Rennes when you return from your exchange which will imply for you to pay extra tuition fees. The terms, conditions, and costs will be confirmed by Rennes SB after studying your exchange results (transcript) during the Examboard (Committee that examines and validates your exchange results).
