USEFUL INFORMATION BEFORE MAKING YOUR UNIVERSITY SELECTION
There are many factors to consider when making your wishes of destinations. To help you prepare, we recommend that you read these guidelines carefully before beginning the exchange process.
PLAN YOUR BUDGET
Studying abroad as an exchange student generates fees that you have to be aware of and which is something you need to plan for in advance. Plan your budget according to your destination (transport, accommodation, visa, and potential trips to Paris for administrative papers, cost of living, insurance, etc.).
You can find information related to an average budget for each university in the 👉 Partner University Fact Sheets 👈.
COURSES
Not all specialisations are available to study at every destination. It is important to make sure your wishes are based on your personal career plan. You can find information on partner university courses here and by consulting the partner university websites.
THE LOGISTICAL ASPECTS ARE IMPORTANT TO ME (VISA, ACCOMMODATION, TRANSPORT, ETC). WHERE CAN I FIND INFORMATION ABOUT THIS?
Basically, all the organisational details of your stay abroad are your responsibility. You can read more about these aspects in 👉 Step 3 👈. Plan ahead to make sure nothing gets in the way of your exchange!
TUITION FEES
You do not have to pay any tuition fees to the host university while going for an exchange abroad. You will keep paying your usual tuition fees to Rennes SB. However, keep in mind that, depending on Partner Universities, there might be some extra costs detailed in the University Factsheets (Student Union, student card, insurance...)
WE DO NOT USE SOCIAL NETWORKS TO PROVIDE YOU WITH INFORMATION
Please don’t pay attention to the information you may find on Facebook or on other social networks (except on the official school account). Rennes School of Business will send you all of the necessary information to help you make your decision and carry out the necessary procedures.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO BEFORE SELECTING THE UNIVERSITIES THAT INTEREST ME?
You must submit your necessary documents on RISE (check 👉 Step 1 - Gather the necessary documents for university selection 👈)
WHAT ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY SELECTION?
WHEN SHOULD I SELECT MY UNIVERSITIES?
You will complete your university selection by January of your BiM2 year. You will receive the exact dates by email.
You will complete your selection of partner universities directly on your RISE account, through an Online Training Offer (Offre de Formation en Ligne) called OFL - University Selection.
HOW DO I MAKE MY SELECTION?
Online, via an OFL accessible on your RISE account. You will be notified by email when the process starts. As long as the OFL is open, you can modify your wishes by deleting them and restarting them in your desired order until the OFL closes. Once the OFL is closed, your wishes are final. Don’t wait until the last minute to make your wishes.

DOUBLE-CHECK YOUR CONFIRMATION EMAIL
Once you have validated your OFL, you will automatically receive a confirmation email. Make sure to double-check that the list of partner universities appearing on this confirmation email is correct.
HOW MANY UNIVERSITIES SHOULD I CHOOSE?
You must make 12 wishes, in order of preference.
NB: For foreign students, the universities you choose must be located outside your country of origin.
HOW DOES THE PARTNER UNIVERSITY ALLOCATION SYSTEM WORK?
The Partner University allocation system is based on the exchange ranking established on the academic results. Depending on the ranking of students, the OFL takes place in several waves of allocations:
- Wave 1: students ranked in the first half of the ranking make their wishes first
- Wave 2: students ranked in the second half of the ranking make their wishes after
(exact dates of the allocation waves will be sent by email sent in early December)
HOW WILL I BE RANKED AND WHEN WILL I FIND OUT MY RANKING?
The ranking, for a departure abroad, is published at the end of October. You will be informed by email. It is based on your GPA score before any BiM1 re-sit examinations.
HOW CAN I DECIDE WHICH SEMESTER I WANT TO GO ON EXCHANGE?
During your UP selection OFL, on RISE, you will see these options (the following options are an example):
- University_X_S5 (this wish means you wish to go to University X for semester 5)
- University_X_S6 (this wish means you wish to go to University X for semester 6)
- University_X_1 year (this wish means you wish to go to University X for the full year S5+S6)
- University_X_1 year double degree (this wish means you wish to go to University X for the full year S5+S6 in order to complete a Double Degree)
IN THE OFL, CAN I SELECT BOTH PERIODS "UNIVERSITY_S5" AND "UNIVERSITY_S6" TO INCREASE MY CHANCES OF GETTING THIS UNIVERSITY?
When "Choose between S5 and S6" is indicated in the number of BiM students section on the Exchange Places Offer, it means that the Partner Universities offer Exchange Semesters, independently of the S5 and S6 periods.
Therefore, if a student chooses a university in S5 and there are no more places available, it means the university in question no longer has Exchange Semesters available. Therefore, there is no point in choosing again the same university in S6.
HOW DOES THE ALLOCATIONS SYSTEM WORK?
Based on your ranking, we look at your 1st wish of University. If a place is available, then you are assigned to the corresponding university. If there are no more places left for your 1st wish of university, the 2nd wish will be considered, then the 3rd wish etc., up until your 12th wish, if necessary. You need to think carefully about any of your wishes as it is possible for you to be allocated any of the universities named in your list of preferences.
If none of your wishes are available, you are contacted by our team to make an additional wish among the available universities: you will have 24 hours to do so. In any case, you keep your place in the ranking.
Please note: if a student does not choose a partner university, Rennes SB will make an arbitrary decision and allocate them to one of the remaining host universities.
WHEN WILL I KNOW WHICH UNIVERSITY I AM ASSIGNED TO?
The results of the Partner University allocations are communicated within 3 days of the closure of the OFL.
I AM NOT IN WAVE 1, HOW WILL I KNOW WHICH SLOTS IN WHICH PARTNER UNIVERSITIES ARE STILL AVAILABLE?
After wave 1, we will publish an updated Exchange Places Offer with the remaining slots available for wave 2. You will therefore be able to make your University selection by referring to this updated Exchange Places Offer.
YOUR ALLOCATED UNIVERSITY IS FINAL
The number of places per destination is non-negotiable. We cannot ask for additional places. Similarly, any places remaining at the end of the university allocation process are not available for you to change destinations. Once your allocated university is confirmed and published, your assigned place is final.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST
DO NOT directly contact the partner university: at this stage, Rennes SB remains responsible for the communication with our partner universities for any topics.
